February Overview

February was an exciting month for us. As you already know. Brayden was born on the 18th. Jaeley was so excited to be a big sister and I was excited to be done being pregnant. My due date was the 16th and of course it came and went. On the 17th we had a ward valentine dance/party so I went and shook my groove thing. I ended the night by doing the limbo, I don't know if everybody enjoyed the limbo more or watching a huge pregnant lady try to do it. I just told everybody that I was trying everything to go into labor. Well I guess the limbo worked because at 4:00 AM the next morning I went into labor. So note to self, if I go over with my next one then I will be doing the limbo once again.

Labor Story
Well this time around was a lot different than with Jaeley. So I felt my first contraction at 4:00 a.m. but didn't think anything of it because I was having contractions occasionally. Then I had another one around twenty minutes later (I didn't time it) so then I decided that I would time the next one and it was about five minutes. With Jaeley I had contractions about five minutes apart for hours so I thought I had a long time. So I woke up Rhett just to give him a heads up and he checked me and said I was 4 cm, so told him I was going to get in the shower/bath. When I got in the bath, the contractions started being two minutes apart so I hurried and got up and showered. I got out and told Rhett that he better hurry because now the contractions were closer than two minutes. He must of thought that I wasn't that serious because he took his precious time. Finally around 6:30 we called my friend to come and get Jaeley and we headed to the hospital. We got to the hospital at 6:45 and we couldn't find anybody to help us in the OB emergency (probably because it was shift change). Finally someone came and sent us into a room. My contractions were way hard and close. So right when we got into the room, my water broke. Now the contractions were hurting so so bad. (I really wanted to do it without an epidural but by now all I wanted was an epidural because I thought I was going to be in pain for at least a couple of hours.) Well the doctor checked me and I was at a 6 so they sent me over to Labor and Delivery and by the time I got there I was demanding an epidural so I got my IV and the anesthesiologist was there to give me my epidural. She said that it would take 10 minutes to start working. This was at 7:25. I know that because Rhett thought it would be a good idea to call his dad at this time. Don't ask me why, but he definitely got an ear full from me while I was getting the epidural. Well as soon as she was done, all these people/doctors (residents) were in the room telling me I needed to start pushing. I was freaking out because the lady wasn't even out of the room. So my epidural hadn't kicked in at all. So I guess I was already dilated to a 10 and the baby's heart rate was dropping lower so they wanted me to get him out. It was kind of crazy. All I remember was that I don't know any of the doctors (my doctor didn't make it), that they all seemed frantic to get the baby out (none of them gowned up or anything), and that it made my contractions feel way better when I pushed. So anyway I guess he was turned wrong so the doctor stuck her hand up there and turned him (luckily for me, the doctor was a girl and she had little hands). As soon as she did that Rhett stepped in and he came right out and Rhett was able to deliver him. They were worried that he wouldn't be breathing so they had the resuscitation team from the NICU there just in case. Brayden was crying by the time he got over to the baby warmer so I wasn't worried, but they checked him out anyway. He was born at 7:36 a.m., not even ten minutes after I got my epidural (I knew I shouldn't have got one). He was a healthy happy boy. We were happy that Rhett was able to deliver him and that everything went well. So over all my labor was only 3 1/2 hours compared to a 15 hour labor with Jaeley. Next time I will go to the hospital a little earlier....

This is on my due date

  1. Oh my goodness lady! I'm always terrified my epidural's not going to kick in cause I go pretty fast too. But luckily not that fast! I think they should refund it if it doesn't have time to work, lol. Congrats again on the sweet new baby boy!
